EDM-machinig electrodes, plates, blocks ...
The principle of EDM or machining of metals using arc discharge, or electric spark consists in controlled
intensity of arc discharge. The EDM process requires electrodes that generate electric sparks, and copper
and GRAPHITE are common materials used for such electrodes.
However, compared with copper, graphite can be machined more easily, has a lower coefficient of thermal
expansion, low electrode wear, smaller machining gap, and is much lighter. Due to these advantages graphite
is becoming a popular material for EDM electrodes.
Our graphites for EDM comes from one of the most prestigious producer of carbon and graphite materials which
meet all your demands and the highest requirements .
Table with the ranges of basic EDM material characteristics:
| EDM graphite grade / characteristic | Rough-finishing grade | Precision-finishing grade | High-precision-finishing grade |
| Surface finish VDI (-) | 36 - 30 | 27 - 24 | 20 - 16 |
| Surface finish Ra (μm) | 6.3 - 3.3 | 2.2 - 1.6 | 1.1 - 0.6 |
| Shore hardness (-) | 56 - 58 | 62 - 64 | 72 - 78 |
| Porosity (%) | 10 - 15 | 7 - 8 | 5 -6 |
| Grain size (μm) | 11 - 13 | 6 - 8 | 2 - 4 |
Ideal both for rough machining of large surface areas and general finishing of large moulds.
The best choice for general mould tool applications where low wear, speed, high definition and surface finishes are required.
Absolutely the best graphites in our offer destined for very high quality surfaces finishing with excellent edge wear resistance and machining properties.
Graphites for EDM are mostly delivered as blocks, plates, rods or other half-finished products, and they are finally machined by our customer to he the required electrode. Of course we are able to deliver the final electrodes machined according customers´ requirements
